Looking for Custom Jewelry Design? When only something unique will do, let Jeffrey Mann Fine Jewelers create a piece just for you or that someone special. Even if you only have a glimmer of an idea of what you want, our experienced staff will work with you to bring that idea to life. Our talented jewelers love creating one-of-a-kind pieces. Once you meet with them and discuss your ideas, the drawing begins, and your dream jewelry is on its way to becoming a reality.
STEP ONE – THE DRAWING
You – your dreams, your ideas, and your style are the most important elements of your design. It’s not the gems or the metal or even the jewelry artist.
The first step in every custom jewelry design piece is to just sit down with our artists and talk. We’ll discuss what you want, what you need, and what you love. We listen to your likes and dislikes and offer suggestions to ensure each piece is as beautiful as what you’ve envisioned.
From there, we sketch different designs, incorporating your favorite stones, type of setting, and other design elements. And we’ll talk about metal, the foundation of your custom piece. Not all metals are created equal; price and durability are key factors in your creation. Our artists will discuss the pros and cons of various metals to help you make your decision.
STEP TWO – WAX CARVING
Once you approve the design, the work on your piece begins. We take a blank (a piece of wax) and begin to carve and shape it. As the smoothing and shaving progresses, the design takes shape. Then, together, we take one last look to make sure it’s just right before the casting process begins.
STEP THREE – ROUGH CASTING
After casting, the miniature wax sculpture is imbedded in plaster to create an impression. The chosen metal is then melted and placed into the cavity, creating a rough cast of the final product. It is not what you see in showcases, but all jewelry looks like this before our artisans begin their work.
STEP FOUR – CLEAN CASTING
At this point in the process your design is beginning to look like a finished piece. The jeweler has spent many hours cleaning and polishing the metal to get the right look. Seats for any desired gemstones are drilled and attached, preparing for the final step of setting the chosen stones.
STEP FIVE – THE COMPLETED PIECE
This is our favorite step. All of us at Jeffrey Mann Fine Jewelers love seeing the happy faces of customers who have watched a seed of an idea blossom into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry to be treasured and enjoyed.
